WCW Presents: Road Wild
Saturday, August 29st, 2020
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally: Sturgis, South Dakota
Schiavone: Ladies and gentlemen, after a brief hiatus we are back in action! Welcome to WCW Road Wild! I’m Tony Schiavone joined alongside my broadcast partners Mike Tenay and Jim Ross!
JR: It’s good to be back Tony, for those of you who are unaware, WCW had a minor scare with a crew member of Being the Elite who had tested positive for COVID-19, which had shut down production while we had the entire company get tested on multiple occasions. I can now confirm that individual is healthy, safe and recovering at home while the rest of the roster have all tested negatively, thank goodness!
Tenay: That was a scary moment for all of us JR, but just like you said, we are back and we’re ready to put on an amazing show for you guys tonight. Along with the already announced action, we hope to get back to our regular release schedule for Being the Elite in the near future.
Schiavone: Well, with that out of the way, let’s get right to the action shall we?
Match #1: Tag Team Match
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
The Butcher & Blade (w/ The Bunny) vs. MexiBlood
We start off tonight’s PPV with the first of four scheduled tag team matches as we look to advance the WCW Tag Team Championship tournament. This match is more for entertainment purposes that anything else as the high-flying lucha style of MexiBlood is a great way to get any live crowd in to the action rather quickly. Butcher and Blade spend some time working over their opponents in an effort to slow them down as their speed advantage is very evident, but it is of no real use once Bandido and Flamita get an opportunity to fight back. The Bunny tries to interfere in the match near the midway point, only to find herself sent to the back rather quickly as the referee isn’t wasting any time laying down the law early on. The end of this match see MexiBlood become the first team to advance to the Semi-Finals after Bandido hits the 24plex on The Blade for the pinfall victory.
Winners: MexiBlood by pinfall @ 7:14.
{We head backstage to see an angry Daniel Bryan.}
Bryan: Dijakovic! What you did two weeks ago, crossed the line. You attacked my friend Drew Gulak when we wasn’t expecting it, and you left him lying in a pool of his own blood in the hotel lobby, for what? To get a match with me? To get my attention? When I told you that I wanted you to challenge me yourself, I was expecting you to be a man and speak to me face to face, but clearly you’re allot more like your new manager Jim Cornette than I thought you were. Well Dijakovic, you’ve got my attention! I’m here tonight at Road Wild, and so is Drew! I officially accept your challenge, and I promise you, you’re going to regret what you did! I’ll see you in the ring!
Match #2: Tag Team Match
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
The Kingdom vs. Arquette City
We head back to ringside for more tag team tournament action as The Kingdom’s Mike Bennett and Matt Taven take on former WCW Champion Dave Arquette and RJ City. Before the match can begin, Tony Schiavone explains that Bennett’s wife Maria elected to stay home with her young children due to the recent COVID-19 scare backstage. This match is more of a comedic match as opposed to the pure wrestling match, but this was expected when you’ve got RJ City and David Arquette in the match. Bennett and Taven show a little rust in the early moments of the match as they haven’t teamed together in quite some time, which allows Arquette and City to go on the offensive for a lot longer than anyone would have anticipated, much to the joy of the crowd who are firmly behind the babyface underdogs. Eventually, Bennett and Taven do end up getting on the same page, which turns this match completely upside down as The Kingdom are too much for Arquette City to handle. We have a moment at the end of the match, where Taven is on the outside with City, and Arquette is able to hit Bennett with a Diamond Cutter that causes the crowd to erupt! Arquette sets up for the Worm, but before he can, he is leveled with a Spear by Matt Taven who was able to break free of RJ City and get in to the ring. With Taven back to working on City, keeping him outside the ring, Bennett nails Arquette with the Power of Love for the 3-count victory.
Winners: The Kingdom by pinfall @ 12:27.
{We head backstage again to see The Salvation’s Seth Rollins standing in his locker room. Rollins appears to be standing alone until a knock is heard at the door.}
Rollins: Come in!
The door opens and in walks Matt Cardona.
Rollins: Matthew, you came! So good to see you my friend!
Cardona looks around in confusion.
Cardona: Where are Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory?
Rollins: I sent them away, they have some business to take care of for me tonight, and I wanted you to feel comfortable here. I thought what better than to just have a 1-on-1 discussion without you feeling a need to constantly look over your shoulder, or fear of ending up like Dustin Rhodes. Matthew, this is different, I promise you.
Cardona: Yeah, sure. Anyways, about that phone call….
Rollins: Yes! Listen, I saw your match against Randy Savage, I was very impressed! I know the outcome wasn’t what you had wanted it to be, but I saw that fire in you! A fire that we haven’t seen in over 10 years was reignited when you came to WCW, and I want to help you keep that fire. I know where you are right now, a man without a home, without a family. Much like Jon Moxley is, and just like Dustin Rhodes is….well, was! Matthew I can see that you’re looking for a purpose, a way to make a new name for yourself in WCW, to leave your past behind you, and what better way than by joining The Salvation?
Cardona’s face clearly shows he’s hesitant to join The Salvation, but also that he’s at least thinking over Rollins’ offer.
Rollins: Matthew, I’m not here to force your hand like I did to Jon Moxley. I’m not here to end your career for turning me down like Dustin Rhodes either. I see a purpose in you, and untapped potential that only walking alongside of me will unlock. Come to think of it, walk with me now Matthew, let’s discuss what The Salvation has to offer you.
Rollins puts his arm on Cardona’s back and leads him out of the locker room as we head back to ringside for more action.
Match #3: Singles Match
WCW Women’s Championship
WCW Women’s Championship
Big Swole vs. Tessa Blanchard ©
Keeping the momentum of tonight’s show rolling, we get our first Championship match of the evening as Tessa Blanchard makes her first official WCW Women’s Championship defense against Big Swole! The commentary team put over Swole’s incredibly impressive run in the Women’s Battle Royal last month as the main reason she has been given this opportunity so early in to her WCW career, but Swole never once leaves a doubt as to why she deserved to be here. This match is incredibly hard hitting as both Swole and Tessa work a very stiff style which for those who are unfamiliar with these two women’s style of wrestling, would think they really don’t like each other. The Champion takes control early as Tessa brings the pain to Swole, but Big Swole shows her resiliency by refusing to stay down which begins to irritate Tessa Blanchard. This allows Swole to get on the offensive and really impress! Swole uses her speed and aggression to keep Tessa guessing as the Champion looks to be in trouble for the first time in her early title reign. Swole comes off the top with a flying crossbody, but Tessa counters it by timing a perfect dropkick that send Swole crashing to the mat holding her midsection. Seeing an opportunity to put this away, Tessa quickly picks Swole up, but Swole somehow manages to react quickly and reverses Blanchard’s Buzzsaw attempt, turning it in to her Dirty Dancing ripcord forearm smash instead! Swole covers Blanchard as the crowd chants along!
1……………………..
2……………………….
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tessa manages to get a shoulder up as we all thought we’d see a new Champion crowned here tonight! The match does slowdown from here as both superstars take some time to catch a breather, while still trying to keep the other down. Seeing another opportunity to try and put her away, Big Swole charges towards Tessa with a Spear, but Tessa manages to move out of the way at the last second! As Swole crashes in to the ropes, jerking her neck in between the middle and bottom rope, Tessa sees her opportunity to strike back and quickly climbs the turnbuckle. Tessa waits for Swole to begin to come to and get to her feet. As Swole turns towards Tessa, Blanchard leaps off the top rope and nails the unsuspecting Big Swole with the Magnum for the pinfall. The crowd may have hated the winner, but they sure loved the match as they show their appreciation for an incredible bout!
Winner: Tessa Blanchard by pinfall @ 18:21.
Tessa celebrate retaining her Championship after the match, while Swole is slow to get to her feet. As Tessa goes to leave the ring, Big Swole grabs her arm and pulls her back in close. Tensions rise as the fans await to see the next move, but Big Swole simply just offers her hand to show appreciation for the match. Tessa waits for a moment before finally shaking Swole’s hand, only to quickly pull her in for a Buzzsaw, much to the dismay of the WCW crowd.
{We head backstage to see Jon Moxley arriving at the area as the broadcast team hype tonight’s match with the always dangerous Killer Kross.}
{We then almost immediately head in to a pre-recorded promo from Moxley’s opponent, Killer Kross himself.}
Kross: The world, is always direly searching for answers….questions….motives, explanations of great certainty as to why….terrible people do terrible things. We are not here to “Shock a System”. We are not here to save you from your corrupted dreams of Salvation. We are…..your entertainment. It’s time, to WAKE UP from the dream, before you stay asleep forever. Jon Moxley he will be the first, but oh no no he will not be the last. Fall……and……Pray. Tick-Tock!

Match #4: Tag Team Match
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
The Revival vs. JML
We head back to ringside for the third of tonight’s four Tag Team Quarter Finals matches. This match slows down the pace compared to the previous 3 matches we’ve seen in tonight’s PPV broadcast as The Revival work a much slower and more power based match, really keeping JML’s Isaiah Scott and David Starr from being able to use any of their speed to their advantage. Scott and Starr are both great wrestlers, and had a lot of success overseas, but they may be better suited for singles competition in WCW after being used as enhancement talent in this match. The outcome was always a forgone conclusion as The Revival manager to put JML away easily after a Shatter Machine allows Dash to pin Starr for the victory.
Winners: The Revival by pinfall @ 5:11.
{We get a video package hyping WCW’s next PPV: Fall Brawl}

Match #5: Singles Match
WCW World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Match
WCW World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Match
Marty Scurll vs. Cesaro
These two veterans know how to put on an entertaining match, which would blow most fans minds if they knew this was the first time they have ever met inside a ring. Cesaro and Scurll work a slow paced match in the beginning which gradually picks up as the match progresses, doing an incredible job of working the fans back in to the match after the previous match on the card killed the energy a little. With both Scurll and Cesaro being great technical wrestlers, this match is on that many pure wrestling fans would dream of seeing as they both pull out all the stops here in an attempt to take “Match of the Night Honors”. Cesaro manages the first close call after hitting a Gotch Style Neutralizer on Scurll, but Marty is up before 3, much to the pleasure of the fans, who seem to be split 50/50 in this one. Cesaro begins to take more control as the match progresses, but a missed European Uppercut allow Scurll to slip behind Cesaro and lock in the Crossface Chickenwing as Scurll looks to submit his opponent. Though fading from the hold, Cesaro shows his brute strength, getting up to his feet while Scurll is still on his back and walking over to the ropes to break the hold in a moment that even the WCW broadcast team couldn’t believe! After a brief verbal exchange by two of the best wrestlers Europe has to offer, both men go at it again, picking up right where they left off. Scurll misses a Clothesline which allows Cesaro to catch with an Uppercut that could be heard from the rafters! With Scurll down, Cesaro sets up for The Neutralizer once more, but before he can hit the move, Scurll slips back and stumbles in to the corner. Scurll and Cesaro exchange words once more as they head to the middle of the ring to trade shots, when suddenly the bell rings. The referee can be seen conversing with the time keeper as to why he rung the bell, before turning back to the men in the ring and signalling this match is over due to time limit, much to the surprise of both men, and the dismay of the crowd who have been robbed of a classic match.
Winner: No Contest Due to Time Limit @ 10:00.
Both Scurll and Cesaro are in complete shock as neither man were seemingly aware of a time limit added to this match. They approach the referee for answers, but the referee simply tells them he was just doing what he was told.
This then quickly brings out WCW Booking Committee member Arn Anderson who is fuming. Anderson ignore the questions from both Cesaro and Scurll as he heads straight to the timekeeper’s box. Arn can be heard over the boo’s of the crowd, scolding the time keeper for ringing the bell, and demanding an answer as to why, but the timekeeper, who Tony Schiavone identifies as WCW intern Robert Gregory has no answers for him. Enrages, Anderson kicks Gregory to the back, seemingly firing him on the spot for ruining a classic match. Arn then converses with the referee before the both roll in to the ring to inform Scurll and Cesaro that although this match was not meant to have a time limit, the referee did ring the bell, and his decision is final. Anderson promises he will speak to Eric Bischoff about rectifying this situation as soon as possible, but tell them there is nothing he can do right now. The men all leave the ring in both confusion and anger as we are left wondering what just happened here.
{We head backstage to see WCW timekeeper Robert Gregory walking backstage after being dismissed by Arn Anderson. As Gregory continues walking down the hall, he stops near a corner and appears to be speaking to someone, though the camera isn’t close enough to pick up the audio. The person he is speaking to hands him a wad of cash before sending him on his way. As Gregory disappears from view, the camera stays focused on the blind spot until the other person finally walks in to view of the camera and is revealed to be WCW World Champion, Nick Aldis.}
{Loud boo’s can be heard be the crowd watching this from the jumbotron as the commentary team speculate Aldis had paid Gregory to end the match without a winner in hopes of not having to defend his Championship against either man.}
Match #6: Singles Match
Daniel Bryan (w/ Drew Gulak) vs. Dominik Dijakovic (w/ Jim Cornette)
We head back to the ring for what is expected to be 1 of 2 very explosive matches tonight. Bryan is looking focused and angry while Dijakovic looks to be calm and ready to handle whatever Daniel Bryan throws his way. Both men are accompanied to the ring for this match, as Dijakovic has his new manager Jim Cornette in his corner, while Bryan is being accompanied by his friend Drew Gulak who is still showing the effects from Dijakovic’s attacked 2-weeks ago on BTE. Daniel Bryan is hot out of the gates as soon as the bell rings, rushing Dijakovic and attacking him with a flurry of punches, followed by some hard kicks to the legs as Dijakovic stumbles back, not quite reacting properly to Bryan’s aggressive game plan. Dijakovic does eventually manage to get a thumb to the eye of Bryan which the referee seemingly missed, allowing him to then counter on the offensive and begin to use his size and power to overwhelm his opponent. As the match carries on, Dijakovic does a great job working over Daniel Bryan as the crowd tries desperately along with Drew Gulak to get their fan favourite back in to the match. Bryan does eventually manage to counter and Irish Whip and get some steady offense of his own in, but it’s quickly squashed once Jim Cornette see an opportunity to grab Bryan’s leg as he gets a little too close to him, causing enough of a distraction to allow Dijakovic to nail Bryan with a massive boot to the jaw, that send Bryan over the ropes to the floor! The fight heads to the floor momentarily as Dijakovic beats down on Bryan on the outside, before he’s cut off by an angry Drew Gulak. Gulak doesn’t get physically involved in the match as he doesn’t want to get his friend disqualified, but does trade words with Dijakovic long enough to allow Bryan to regain himself and get back in to the ring. Once in the ring, Bryan manages to get back in control of the match, before getting Dijakovic on the mat, and signalling for the Knee Plus, but before he can attempt the move, Jim Cornette has hopped up on to the apron and is attempting to distract the referee. This proves costly for Cornette though, as Drew Gulak pulls him off the apron, before leveling him with a hard right hand! This distracts Dijakovic just long enough to keep his attention off Bryan, who nails him with the Knee Plus as soon as he turns around, and covers him for the victory!
Winner: Daniel Bryan by pinfall @ 17:14.
Bryan celebrates his victory in the ring with his friend Drew Gulak, but their victory is short lived as an angry Dijakovic attacks Gulak from behind before turning his attention to Bryan, looking to extract some revenge for his loss. Dijakovic does manage to get some offence in on both men, but is soon overwhelmed by the 2-on-1 from Bryan and Gulak. This brings Jim Cornette in to the ring, as Cornette sneaks behind Bryan, looking to hit him with the tennis racket, but before he can, Bryan turns around! Shocked and scared, Cornette begins backing up and pleading with a smiling Daniel Bryan, who begins to stalk him in to the corner. Before Bryan can manage to get a hand on Cornette though……
Jeff Cobb appears on the stage! His music hits and the fans in the arena are in pure shock as Cobb makes his way down to the ring. Once in the ring, Cobb says no words, instead making his presence known instantly by taking down Gulak with a running shoulder tackle! Bryan charges at Cobb, but Cobb catches Bryan and plants him down to the mat with an STO! Cobb looks at Cornette who is now smiling, before picking up Gulak and nailing him with the Tour of the Islands!
Cobb then quickly rushes Daniel Bryan and kicks him hard in the stomach to stop him from getting back to his feet too quickly. He then grabs Bryan, and tosses him in to Dijakovic who immediately nails him with a Feast Your Eyes!
With both Bryan and Gulak now down in the ring, and the fans raining boo’s down on Cornette and company, Dijakovic offers Cobb his hand, to which Cobb immediately shakes it, before doing the same with Jim Cornette! The 3 men then leave the ring together as the broadcast team speculate over the bright futures of both Dominik Dijakovic and Jeff Cobb who have now both seemingly aligned with Jim Cornette.
{We see a video of an old television set appear on the jumbotron. The television appears to be showing nothing but static at the moment, until it finally seems to find a faint signal. Distorted sound is heard from the television until the signal finally begins to clear up as we see some old WCW footage from the company’s original run.}
{The old logo for WCW Monday Nitro appears on the screen as the voice of a young Tony Schiavone can be heard in the background.}
Schiavone: Welcome to Monday Nitro!
{The scene fades out as the following words flash on to the screen, drawing a pop from the crowd watching along:}
WCW MONDAY NITRO
COMING SOON!
Match #7: Tag Team Match
Tag Team Tournament Quarter-Finals
The Young Bucks vs. The Motor City Machine Guns
The final quarter-final match save arguable the best match for last as The Young Bucks take on The Motor City Machine Guns in a match that was originally supposed to happen last month. Both teams have excellent chemistry both together and with their own partners, making for an amazing match that has the fans on their feet for the entirety of the match. We see the usual spot fest that is a Young Bucks style of “indy wrestling”, but The Machine Guns show they can also put their bodies on the line as well, as this dream match slowly turns in to a game of who can 1-up the other. After a series of near falls and false finishes, both teams tag a moment to acknowledge the other before getting back to the action. Unfortunately this match did need to end at some point, and it does after a Superkick from Matt Jackson lays out Alex Shelley on the outside, allowing Sabin to fall victim to a Meltzer Driver and the pinfall, allowing The Young Bucks to advance to the Semi-Finals!
Winners: The Young Bucks by pinfall @ 14:47.
Following the match, we get a mutual show of respect and admiration between both teams, as the four men embrace in the middle of the ring. The Machine Guns turn to leave, but they are stopped by the Young Bucks, who keep them in the ring to allow the fans to show their admiration to them, while the Bucks head to the back instead. Sabin and Shelley remain in the ring while the crowd applaud them, when suddenly, Matt Cardona appears at the top of the stage.
Cardona slowly heads down the ramp towards the ring, while Sabin and Shelley both look at him confused as to why he’s out here. Shortly after Cardona begins making his way down to the ring, he stops and turns his attention back towards the stage, where Seth Rollins appears.
Cardona waits as Rollins walks down the ramp to meet up with him, before both men head to the ring. Rollins stops Cardona, asking him to wait on the outside as Rollins begins climbing in to the ring. Before Rollins can enter though, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are attacked from behind by Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory who had come in the ring through the crowd. Murphy and Theory continue to attack MCMG, while Rollins enters the ring to join in on the action. The camera pans over to Cardona who is looking on, but does not look completely comfortable with what he is watching unfold in the ring. With the 3 members of The Salvation beating down on the Motor City Machine Guns, Rollins has Murphy and Theory get Chris Sabin in position, before hitting him with The Stomp!
Rollins then calls to Cardona to come in to the ring and attack Alex Shelley. Cardona gets in the ring, but before he can lay a hand on Shelley, he turns to Rollins looking unsure, and questions his decision to attack. Angered, Austin Theory gets in Cardona’s face, but he’s back off sternly by Seth Rollins who assure Cardona it’s okay that he doesn’t want to attack Alex Shelley, before nailing Shelley with a stomp himself!
Rollins then signals for the rest of Salvation to join him in leaving the ring, including Matt Cardona who still has a guilty look on his face after what just happened to the Machine Guns. As Cardona joins the rest of Salvation in heading to the back, Tony Schiavone wonders if Cardona is really considering joining The Salvation.
{We head backstage to Charly Caruso, who is joined by Jim Cornette, Dominik Dijakovic and Jeff Cobb.}
Caruso: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guests at this time, Jim Cornette, Jeff Cobb and Dominik Dijakovic! Jim, earlier tonight Dominik Dijakovic was unsuccessful in his match against Daniel Bryan, but following the match Jeff Cobb seemingly aligned himself with you and Dijakovic. Can you shed some light on the situation we saw unfold earlier?
Cornette: Oh I sure as hell can pretty lady! You see they say there are two things in life you can’t avoid, death and taxes! Daniel Bryan, much like many other people forgot the third thing, which is the wrath of Jim Cornette! Daniel, I told you that I was going to get back at you for embarrassing me, I told you that I was going to watch Dominik Dijakovic wipe that smug smile off your stupid Vegan, tree-hugging face! Now the outcome of this match didn’t go the way we had intended thanks to Drew Gulak punching me right in the face, but I always have an insurance policy just in case things don’t go according to plan, and my insurance policy’s name is Jeff Cobb!
Jeff Cobb is a mountain of a man! A real savage in every sense of the term! This is a man who not only represented Guam in the 2004 Summer Olympics, but he was selected to be the flag bearer of the entire country as well! A man who went toe to toe with UFC standout Yoel Romero in the Olympics and is standing here today that much more of a bad ass wrecking machine because of it! A man who is able to mix the calm demeanour of his Hawaiian ancestors with the shere power he carries to make himself one of the most dangerous sons of bitches in the world!
Then we have Dijakovic, and if you have any doubts of his abilities after coming up short tonight, you may want to ask Drew Gulak how he’s feeling after taking a beating at the hands of Dijakovic not once, but twice already! Daniel Bryan, whenever you’re done picking up your teeth from the ringside area, I want you to go over to you friend Drew Gulak and tell him to prepare for war at Fall Brawl, because we aren’t finished with you, and we’ll go through whoever else we need to until you regret ever crossing our paths!
Cornette signals to Cobb and Dijakovic to leave the interview area, when suddenly Keith Lee is seen standing in view of the camera!
Lee looks at Cornette before turning his attention to his old friend Dominik Dijakovic. Neither man share a single word as they just trade stares before Lee turns his attention to Jeff Cobb which causes an audible roar from the crowd watching this from inside the arena. Cobb takes a step forward but Lee doesn’t budge, instead he just smiles. Lee then places his hand on the shoulder of Cobb and pats him twice before walking out of view of the camera as we slowly pan back to the ring for even more ringside action.
Match #8: Singles Match
WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Moose vs. Nick Aldis ©
Moose gets another crack at the WCW Championship tonight after dominating in the Fatal-4-Way last month, before his cardio issues ended up being his downfall. Moose looks ready and properly prepared tonight as he takes it to WCW Champion Nick Aldis in the early going. Though Moose does look dominant to start off the match, the story told by the broadcast team seems to be more focused on MVP claiming on BTE that he had gotten this rematch for Moose, yet he is nowhere to be seen, as many expected him to be in Moose’s corner, though it seems Moose isn’t quite ready to trust MVP just yet. Moose, who many viewed as a heel before tonight’s match, seems to be working as more of a face in this contest, as the crowd is firmly behind the challenger, though that may have a lot more to do with the general distain most WCW fans have for Nick Aldis already. Moose lands the first near fall after catching Aldis in midair and landing a Running Powerslam, but the champion gets a shoulder up at 2. The match does seem to slow down just a little bit from here on, as Moose begins to show some early signs of fatigue as Schiavone, JR and Tenay speculate if Moose is going to run his gas tank empty much like he did at Bash at the Beach. Moose’s struggles soon begin to come to light as it allows the Champion to start fighting back in this one, getting the most offense he’s gotten at this point in the match though Aldis is so good both in terms of skill and charisma, that getting his ass kicked for most of the match in his first title defense doesn’t seem to hurt his stock at all. Aldis using his technical wrestling ability to work on the limbs of Moose, specifically targeting his legs as an attempt to not only slow him down, but weaken any chance of a surprise Spear that could potentially end Aldis’ reign earlier than he’s like. We do get a moment where Moose sees an opening to nail the No Jackhammer Needed, but Moose’s leg gives out just as Aldis had planned, allowing him to stay in the offensive as he locks Moose in to a single legged Boston crab. With the move locked in, and Moose taking a ton of abuse to the legs, it appears this match may be over at this point, but the crowd is still firmly behind the challenger, rooting for him to continue on although in obvious pain. In an impressive feat of strength, Moose pushes himself up to his hand and manages to use both his and Aldis’ body weight to get to the ropes, breaking up the submission attempt, and sending Aldis toppling over the ropes to the floor. The match doesn’t stay on the outside for long though as Moose knows he can’t win the title via countout, though Aldis did try to stay out until the referee’s 10, it’s Moose who manages to get them both in the ring before then. Once back in the ring, Aldis goes for a thumb to the eye, but it’s Moose who catches his hand and twist his wrist, before picking Aldis up, and powerslamming him again! In obvious pain, Moose limps to the corner as he sets up for a No Jackhammer Needed, while he waits for Aldis to get to his feet. Trying to fight back the pain in his legs, Moose charges at Aldis, but the Champion moves at the last second and catches Moose with a knee to the head! Moose staggers back, seeing stars as Aldis rushes in and takes Moose down with a hard chop block to the back of the leg before quickly locking him in the King Lynn’s Cloverleaf! Moose tries desperately to get to the ropes, but this time he’s not as successful as his last attempt and has no choice but to tap out as Nick Aldis retains him WCW Championship in a classic fashion!
Winner: Nick Aldis by pinfall @ 23:32.
{As the Champion leaves the ring, celebrating his hard fought victory, we get a video package hyping up the events that have lead us to tonight’s Main Event match.}
Main Event: Singles Match
Jon Moxley vs. Killer Kross (w/ Scarlett Bordeaux)
This match is going to be a brawl in every sense of the word. Moxley is pissed from the moment he hits the ring, as the broadcast team acknowledge how he’s waited over a month for this moment. Kross on the other hand is calm, cool and has a sinister smile on his face as both men await for the bell to ring. Moxley charges at Kross as soon as the bell rings and begins hammering him with a wild array of hard rights and lefts that stagger Kross slightly, but Kross then out of nowhere manages to withstand the attack and grab a hold of Moxley, sending him crashing to the mat with a Doomsday Saito!
The crowd boo’s heavily as Kross laughs, though the boo’s soon turn to cheers as Moxley, albeit slowly, pulls himself up to his feet and motions to Kross to “bring it on”. Kross’ smile turns to a snarl as he heads back to Moxley and grabs a hold of him again. This time though, Moxley manages to slip out of it and slaps Kross hard in the face which causes the fans to erupt! Kross’ eyes look like they are going to pop out of his head as stares at Moxley who just simply responds back by showing two middle fingers in the face of Killer Kross!
Kross and Moxley then begin to trade hard shots in the middle of the ring, as Kross’ cool demeanor earlier on has now very quickly turned heated and hatefull. The crowd roars louder as each man slugs on their opponent with everything they have, looking for a knockout punch! Kross tries to be sneaky and throw a forearm to the face of Moxley, but Mox ducks under the arm of Kross, kicks him in the gut and goes for a Paradigm Shift, but Kross reversed out of it and instead it’s Moxley being on the receiving end of his second Doomsday Saito early in to this match!
That move seems to silence the crowd and take a lot out of Moxley, who is not as quick to get to his feet this time around. Moxley does slowly begin to try and stand up, but Kross charges at him and knees him in the head, sending Moxley falling back down to the mat in a daze. Feeling overly confident, and rightfully so, Kross grabs Moxley by the hair and pulls him in real close to his face, before giving Mox a middle finger of his own, much to the distain of the crowd. Feeding off the hate he’s recieveing, Kross then picks up Moxley and hits him with a third Doomsday Saito!
Kross then covers Moxley as the referee counts 1………….2………… NOOOOOOO! Moxley somehow gets a shoulder up to the surprise over everyone! Kross can’t believe it as he springs to his feet screaming in anger. Moxley slowly manages to pull himself up to a seated position before sending another middle finger Kross’ way. Enraged, Kross kicks Moxley right in the temple, seemingly knocking Moxley out. Huffing and puffing in anger, Kross paces around the ring slightly before returning to Moxley and locking him in the Kross Jacket!
Moxley lets out a painful scream as Kross keeps the hold on tight! The fans chant for Moxley to break the hold, but realistically there is nowhere for Moxley to go. Being the lunatic that he is, and refusing to tap out, Moxley fights with every inch of life he has left until he can’t go any longer and passes out, succumbing to Kross’ submission finisher. The referee rushes in to check Moxley’s arm, but he is out cold as the referee has no choice but to call for the bell, declaring Killer Kross the winner!
Winner: Killer Kross by TKO @ 15:42.
Scarlett joins Kross in the ring to celebrate his victory while standing over the body of his fallen opponent as the Tony Schiavone and company sign us off for the evening, thanking us all for watching and telling everyone to stay safe as WCW’s Road Wild fades to a close.
{We head backstage to see WCW timekeeper Robert Gregory walking backstage after being dismissed by Arn Anderson. As Gregory continues walking down the hall, he stops near a corner and appears to be speaking to someone, though the camera isn’t close enough to pick up the audio. The person he is speaking to hands him a wad of cash before sending him on his way. As Gregory disappears from view, the camera stays focused on the blind spot until the other person finally walks in to view of the camera and is revealed to be WCW World Champion, Nick Aldis.}
{Loud boo’s can be heard be the crowd watching this from the jumbotron as the commentary team speculate Aldis had paid Gregory to end the match without a winner in hopes of not having to defend his Championship against either man.}
Match #6: Singles Match
{We see a video of an old television set appear on the jumbotron. The television appears to be showing nothing but static at the moment, until it finally seems to find a faint signal. Distorted sound is heard from the television until the signal finally begins to clear up as we see some old WCW footage from the company’s original run.}
{The old logo for WCW Monday Nitro appears on the screen as the voice of a young Tony Schiavone can be heard in the background.}
Schiavone: Welcome to Monday Nitro!
{The scene fades out as the following words flash on to the screen, drawing a pop from the crowd watching along:}
{We head backstage to Charly Caruso, who is joined by Jim Cornette, Dominik Dijakovic and Jeff Cobb.}
{As the Champion leaves the ring, celebrating his hard fought victory, we get a video package hyping up the events that have lead us to tonight’s Main Event match.}
