NWA Powerrr #5
Location: GPB Studios in Atlanta, GA
"It's funny how things work. You can be the guy who has dreams as a kid of these things you want to accomplish. You can spend years training and preparing for your big moment and then when you finally accomplish that goal, you're left with nothing to show for it and it turns out your dream for all those years...was actually a corporate, political nightmare.
They always say "never meet your heroes" and I never understood that until I got my big break in the pro wrestling business. All these fantasies and scenarios that I romanticized in my mind since I was ten years old, I got the chance to LIVE them. But all that glitters is not gold.
I've had to hear it from everyone from friends, to family, to even my fans - 'you're so talented,' 'you deserve so much more,' 'why don't they see what we see?' These questions have been tumbling in my mind for years and no matter how much I try to justify their decisions, I can't.
Because when the lights go down, and when the crowd erupts and I'm in that ring, I KNOW that I am one of the best professional wrestlers in the entire world. Maybe they didn't see it that way...but soon, the NWA faithfuls will because I'm not resting on my laurels anymore. I'm not settling for pity. I'm not settling for 'what ifs!'
I'm not stopping until the entire WORLD knows what I know.
When it comes to professional wrestling, NOBODY does it better. See you soon, NWA."
Lights, camera, action! We get a shot of the GPB Studios in Atlanta, Georgia where the NWA fans are ready for some incredible wrestling action! There is nothing like studio wrestling and the intimate, closed-set feeling of the NWA is in full swing for this epic episode.
NWA Power wastes no time getting started as we find NWA announcer and interviewer David Marquez standing alongside Eli Drake for a special in-ring interview!
“Folks, welcome to NWA Power and we’re going to waste no time here tonight getting started! After what transpired last week between Eli Drake and Chris Jericho, Eli has requested some time here in the ring to speak. Eli…the microphone is yours.”
Eli takes the mic as the NWA faithfuls cheer for him. Eli soaks up the atmosphere for a minute, enjoying the support from the crowd.
“Thank you very much, David Marquez and HELLO NWA FAITHFULS!”
This elicits another positive response from the crowd.
“YEAH! Well let’s get this thing started…SO LEMME TALK TO YA! What started out as an innocent bit of fun turned really sour, really quick when Chris Jericho decided to jump me from behind. And why? Because I drank what he claims to be a bottle of HIS bubbly?”
Eli smirks and shakes his head in disbelief, as the fans boo!
“You all know that E….LI….DRAKE is always down to have a good time but it seems like Jericho’s got a pipe stuck up his ass! Maybe he needs to increase the alcohol content in his bubbly because quite frankly, he’s acting like an uptight prick!”
The fans “ooooh” at Eli’s choice words for Jericho. Eli shrugs and laughs, continuing on.
“I mean really! This guy is a world travelled wrestler, he’s a veteran in this business and he wants to pick a fight because I made an honest mistake over a bottle of cheap-ass champagne? Chris, if I knew you were so sensitive, I probably would’ve kicked your ass a long time ago!”
Eli laughs as Marquez looks off to the side, startled…
The Inner Circle’s own LAX, Santana and Ortiz, jump Eli Drake and begin to beat him down in the middle of the ring! The fans boo as LAX has their way with Drake. Security is having a difficult time pulling LAX off of Drake.
This prompts MATT RIDDLE out of nowhere to aid Eli Drake! Riddle nails a huge knockout punch to Santana, and a big roundhouse kick to Ortiz, rendering LAX incapacitated! Riddle looks pissed as he looks down at LAX. He then offers a hand to Eli Drake, who accepts it, looking surprised at this unlikely alliance. We cut to commercial break.

Match 1
Apollo Crews v. Brian Myers
This is Myers’ debut match in the NWA, and a big test for him against the reigning NWA National Champion Apollo Crews. Myers definitely brought the fight to Crews in this match, but the fire of the National Champion was on full display, having an answer for every bit of offense Myers threw his way. The match didn’t last as long as perhaps Myers would’ve hoped, as Crews was able to shut him down around 6 minutes in with a standing Shooting Star Press! This wasn’t enough for Crews who wanted to put an exclamation mark on the match, as he followed up with The Chariot (spinout power bomb) for the win.
Winner: Apollo Crews at 6:19
After the match, Crews makes his way to the podium with David Marquez who congratulates him on a great match against Brian Myers.
“Thanks, Dave. I just wanted to take a minute to talk about some things that Samoa Joe had to say about me last week. In particular, Joe said that I’ve got a million dollar smile, and a three dollar set of wrestling ability. I think I just proved him wrong against the time-tested Brian Myers, who really brought the fight tonight by the way. Joe’s a great wrestler, but he’s not the National Champion and that’s not without reason. Joe hasn’t been able to work his way up the ladder like me, and he’s definitely not going to take this belt away from me no matter how big and bad he thinks he is.”
Marquez thanks Crews for his time as the NWA faithfuls in attendance applaud Crews and Myers’ performance.
Next, we get a video package highlighting the Zicky Dice and Ricky Starks TV title match from several weeks ago, and highlights from Zicky subsequently coercing Starks into defending his title against him one more time.
Match 2
NWA Television Championship
Ricky Starks v. Zicky Dice
Finally - the moment Zicky Dice has been waiting for, another crack at the NWA Television Championship! Starks made it clear, however, that this would be Dice’s last chance as long as Starks was champion. Before the bell even sounded, Zicky took a cheap shot against Starks. Starks, being a fighting champion, didn’t let this stop him as he told the referee to ring the bell. After several minutes of hard hitting back and forth action, it was Zicky who was able to slow the match down to more his pace, but at the expensive of the 6 minute 5 second time limit. After a nasty pile driver dropping Starks on his head, Zicky was only able to get a two count. After trying to put away Starks again with other moves including a neck breaker and a bulldog, Starks was able to find that determination inside of him to open a can of whoop ass on Dice, leading to the Buster Keaton and ANOTHER successful title defense!
Winner and STILL NWA Television Champion: Ricky Starks at 5:49
After the match, Starks celebrated with his championship while Zicky started crying literal tears in the middle of the ring, while calling for his mother.
Match 3
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship Tournament
Jax Dane v. Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio has been itching to get revenge on Jax Dane since Dane viciously attacked Mysterio several weeks ago. Now, the stakes are even higher as Mysterio and Dane are pitted against each other in this tournament match. As one would expect, Dane was able to get a hold of Mysterio in the early going and control the match using his sheer power. Mysterio, being known for his endurance and perseverance, was able to mount a comeback against the much larger opponent with several dropkicks to the left knee of Dane, followed by a springboard DDT that drove Dane’s skull straight into the mat! The NWA faithfuls were fully behind Mysterio in this match, especially when he began his comeback. Dane tried to stop the momentum of Mysterio with an attempted choke slam, but Mysterio was able to change his position mid air and bring Dane back down to the mat with ANOTHER DDT! Both men were able to make it back to their feet after the referee began a ten count. Dane swung wildly at Mysterio, who ducked, and got a near fall with a roll up! As both men reached their vertical base again, Mysterio tried setting Dane up for the 619, but was stopped when Dane got a hold of him and nailed The 300 (Spear) for the victory and to advance to the semi-finals of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship tournament.
Winner: Jax Dane at 12:52
We cut backstage to find Matt Riddle and Eli Drake talking about what happened at the start of NWA Power. Drake accuses Riddle of “wanting something”, but Riddle fires back at Drake and says now isn’t the time for egos. Riddle explains that both men have a common enemy in The Inner Circle. Riddle says he hates Jericho’s guts and mentions their Twitter beef, and that they’ve had choice words for each other in the past. Riddle explains to Drake that it’s time to figure something out to rid the NWA of the Inner Circle. Riddle admits that he and Drake are very different, but they need to join together in figuring out a way to eliminate the Inner Circle for the greater good of the NWA. Eli nods as he thinks to himself, as we fade away to find Beer Money standing outside of the ring, while Page and Alexander have a mic inside.
“Hey, Beer Money! I gotta admit, your win streak is looking good so far and you guys are approaching a month of being undefeated. That means that there’s a good chance me and Josh will have to defend these belts against you two.”
Alexander shakes his head, and takes the mic away from Page.
“Hold up a minute! I have it on good authority that Beer Money’s opponents tonight may be their biggest challenge to date. These kids are studs, and ALMOST as impressive as we are. They come from a FAMOUS and LEGENDARY wrestling family and have been tearing it up across the wrestling world for months now. And while I can’t say I’m a fan of these guys, they certainly know their way around a ring. Ladies and gentlemen, the newest NWA tag team, the Von Erich Brothers!”
Match 4
Beer Money v. The Von Erich Bros (Ross and Marshall)
In an exciting tag team match, the Von Eric Brothers had a great first showing in the National Wrestling Alliance. Although Storm and Roode were able to use their experience to maintain control for more than half the match, the Von Erich Brothers certainly put up a fight. At the end of the match, Ross Von Erich was closing in on Storm by setting him up for the Iron Claw, but Storm was able to avoid disaster, hit a Last Call Superkick, and get the victory for his team.
Winners: Beer Money at 8:31
Christian Cage joins David Marquez at the NWA Power podium. The fans cheer as Christian surveys the NWA faithfuls and nods in approval.
“Marquez, do you hear these people? They know that something very special is about to happen with Christian Cage being here in the NWA! I’ve held that title before, and I plan on doing it again. My challenger tonight, Scott Steiner [the fans boo at the mention of Steiner] has never been GOOD enough to win that championship…that’s just the simple truth, Dave. Captain Charisma has tasted that kind of championship victory and I crave it once again, and I’m not going to let myself, OR MY PEEPS, down. Hell, it might even be an easy night for me seeing as how Scotty has…deflated…over the last few years. And once I defeat him, I’m moving on to the semi finals and I’ll win…and I’ll advance to the finals, and I’ll win…because THAT’S…HOW I ROLL!”
Christian smirks as the audience cheers. He makes his way to the ring, followed by a pissed off Scott Steiner, for our main event!
Match 5
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship Tournament
“Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner v. “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage
Steiner (as usual) was pissed off entering this match, but especially so after the pre-match words from Christian Cage. However, Cage was the first to strike in this match with a flurry of punches to the head and body of Steiner. This only seemed to enrage Big Poppa Pump, who nailed a big Steinerline on Cage, stopping his momentum. For the next several minutes, Steiner controlled the match with precise attacks targeting the head and neck of Christian. Around the mid-match point, Cage was able to mount a comeback with a corner springboard plancha, a tornado DDT from the corner, and a big diving headbutt for a near fall. Cage rallied the NWA faithfuls behind him in an attempt to maintain his momentum. Steiner was able to stop the momentum with a kick to the gut, followed by a power slam for another near fall. The finish of the match came when Steiner had Cage locked in the Steiner Recliner, but Cage was able to break by grabbing the ropes. Steiner pulled Cage to a vertical base and attempted to go for another big body slam, but Cage slid behind Steiner and hit the Killswitch for the big W!
Winner: Christian Cage at 11:09
After the match, Christian Cage celebrated in the audience, feeling confident about moving on to the semi-finals of the tournament. Steiner rolled out of the ring and kicked the podium on the way backstage.
David Marquez:
"Folks, we’re out of time! Congratulations to Christian Cage moving on to the semi-finals of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship tournament! Be sure to tune into NWA.com for updated brackets.
Next week, the first round of the tournament concludes when Ron “The Truth” Killings faces….THE UNDERTAKER! From Atlanta, goodnight!"
