NWA Powerrr #4
Location: GPB Studios in Atlanta, GA
Lights, camera, action! We get a shot of the GPB Studios in Atlanta, Georgia where the NWA fans are ready for some incredible wrestling action! There is nothing like studio wrestling and the intimate, closed-set feeling of the NWA is in full swing for this epic episode. We open this episode of NWA Power with David Marquez at the podium being joined by former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, “Double J” Jeff Jarrett!
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of NWA Power! I’m David Marquez and I’m currently being joined by a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, a man who has recently returned home to the NWA, Jeff Jarrett!”
“That’s right David Marquez, former…and soon to be once again…NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Double J Jeff Jarrett! Listen, I was looking at the brackets earlier and noticed that we have seven men in this tournament! So I guess that means I get a bye then, David Marquez! Out of all participants, I was the man to most recently hold that belt so by default, I’m moving on in this tournament!”
“Well Jeff, I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it’s going to work.”
Jarrett looks at Marquez, confused, as Marquez continues on.
“I’ve actually just received word Jeff that - not only do you NOT have a bye in this tournament, you’ll actually be in the first tournament match tonight against the eighth competitor in the championship tournament! Ladies and gentlemen, the man I’m about to introduce has not held the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship in over two decades. He put the NWA on the map back in the eighties. And he is coming back to try for his SEVENTEENTH World Championship, ladies and gentlemen, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair!”
Ric Flair emerges from the curtain as the fans go absolutely wild! Jeff Jarrett looks like he’s about to cry as Naitch struts over to the podium shouting “WOOOOO!”
“DAVE MARQUEZ! Please to meet you! My name’s Ric Flair, SIXTEEN time World Heavyweight Champion! I am the one, the only, the Rolex wearin', diamond ring wearin', kiss stealin', wheelin' dealin', limousine ridin', jet flyin' SONOFAGUN! And I am back here in the NWA to RECLAIM the gold that I put on the map! The gold that MADE me THEE man!”
The fans pop as Ric Flair surveys the audience, nodding in approval of their welcoming chants. Jeff Jarrett starts laughing.
“You’ve got to be freakin’ kidding me. Ric Flair? Ric, listen we’ve known each other a long time. Ric, listen to me, you’re like 70 years old. You nearly died, what, a year ago from your failing health? And you really think you can wrestle at the level that someone like I can, to be successful in this tournament? You are a damned, stupid old fool!”
The crowd gasps as Flair smirks at Jarrett’s harsh words.
“Let me tell you something, fat boy! I’ve spent more time with fine women than you’ve spent in this business! I’ve broken hearts, and broken bones, all the way to the top of the mountain! Haha, oh buddy, you’re in for it tonight! You like to prance around here calling yourself the King of the Mountain? Brother, you need to remember that I’M the one to built that mountain to begin! You wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for me! Now, Jeff, you have a match to get ready for so I suggest you turn around, go get your gear on, and get ready and I’ll see you in the main event of NWA Power! Time to go to school, boy! WOOOOOOOOOO!”
The crowd goes wild as Flair brushes his hair back with a smirk, leading us into a quick and timely advertisement.

Match 1
Ron “The Truth” Killings v. Bully Ray
Looking to make his mark in the NWA, Bully Ray saw an opportunity to destroy Killings and prove that he shouldn’t be in the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship tournament. Ray used his aggression and power to overtake Killings in the early going, delivering moves such as hard lariats and following up with a power bomb that nearly broke Killings in half. However, Truth used his perseverance to fight back against Bully Ray and used his speed to his advantage. The finish of the match saw Bully Ray trying to deliver yet another power bomb to Killings, but Killings jumped off the shoulders of Ray who turned around, got kicked in the gut, and was the victim of Killings patented corkscrew ax kick!
Winner: Ron “The Truth” Killings at 6:44
After we are treated to a commercial for Austin Idol’s Universal Wrestling College, we return to the podium with Dave Marquez. The NWA Television Champion, Ricky Starks, is already in the ring as he's stretching out for his next NWA TV title defense. Before Marquez is able to utter a word to introduce the upcoming match, the NWA faithfuls erupt with shock as…
That’s Drew Gulak FROM WCW!!! What is Drew Gulak doing in GPB Studios?! Gulak steps up to the podium as Marquez holds out the microphone, shocked to see Drew Gulak in Atlanta.
“Surprise, surprise, a real challenger is finally here! Ricky Starks, I bet you're wondering ‘Isn't he signed to WCW?’ Well, you're damn right I'm signed to the best promotion under the GWA umbrella, but I've been given permission from my boss to come over here and teach you a thing or two about being a true champion! You see Ricky, like anyone who loves this business as much as I do, I've watched NWA Power and I've watched you come out here every week and beat guys that are too old to give you any real competition, or guys who are more concerned with getting their faces on television than actually winning the match and it drives me crazy! The NWA was built on REAL professional wrestlers with charisma and technical ability, not some scrawny little Rico Suave wannabe who likes to stand around with his head slanted, biting on his cheeks like he's in some low budget adult film! I've come to NWA tonight to not only beat you for that Television Championship, but to teach you how to be both a real wrestler, and a man with a very special Powerpoint Presentation! Actually....On second thought, I'll save my power-points for the company that actually pays me for my services. Instead, I'm just going to make you tap out!”

Match 2
NWA Television Championship
Ricky Starks v. Drew Gulak
In our weekly NWA TV title match, Ricky Starks was shocked to see WCW’s own grappler Drew Gulak reveal his intentions of taking the NWA Television Championship. Gulak, with a fire in his eyes, caught Starks in the early going and proceeded to school him on the fine art of mat-based wrestling. Starks, being a quick and precise competitor himself, was able to escape the grip of Gulak and connect with several high octane moves including a dropkick, a hurricanrana, and a neck breaker. Gulak was able to get in another shine against Starks with a German Suplex, and then a Spine Splitter for a near fall! As time began to slip from the hands of Gulak, he tried moving in for the finish, but Starks had the wherewithal to strike first sending Gulak into a daze, followed by the Buster Keaton for a HUGE victory!
Winner and STILL NWA Television Champion: Ricky Starks at 5:56
After the match, the referee hands Ricky Starks his NWA TV Title as he begins celebrating.
Suddenly, we get a shot of “Outlandish” Zicky Dice standing with Dave Marquez - with ANOTHER NWA Television Championship?!
“Nice win, Ricky! But look what I have - that’s right, the NWA Television Championship! And what you got there, Ricky, must be a FAKE! That means that I’M the real champion, HAHAHAHA! Now that's...OUTTTLLLLANDISH!”
Starks looks confused as the fans in attendance boo. Ricky Starks shakes his head and grabs a microphone from the ring.
“Zicky, you’ve been coming out here for weeks begging for another shot. The fact of the matter is - the rule of this title - you have to PIN the champion within 6 minutes and 5 seconds to win this title, and you failed to do that on the first episode of Power. I’ve had an open door policy on this title. You got a shot, Guevara got a shot, George freakin’ South got a shot, and I just defeated WCW's own Drew Gulak. But yet here you are, Zicky, begging for another chance like a sad little pup trying to put the brakes to something really cool here in the NWA! Not cool, baby. BUT…since I’m a fighting champion, I’ll give you ONE MORE CHANCE.
But Zicky, it’s gonna be your last chance, man. After next week, that’s it for you and the reign of ‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks WILL continue as I build my legacy in this company, make no mistake about it, daddy.”
Starks drops the mic and Zicky begins salivating, looking forward to his last chance at the TV title next week!
“Joining me now, E-LI DRAKE!”
The fans clap and cheer as Eli Drake smiles and wastes no time getting to work.
“WELL LEMME TALK TO YA! E…LI….DRAKE is back in the National Wrestling Alliance, and DAMN it feels good! Now I’m fully aware that things are a lot different since the last time I was here. We have a lot of people vying for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, and I understand that. Me? I’m just here to make my mark in the wrestling industry by any means necessary! I can’t say all the changes have been bad.”
Eli holds up a bottle of bubbly!
“I found this laying around backstage, some of this bubbly! I don’t remember NWA accommodating us wrestlers like this before, but I’m feeling pretty damn good about it. Hell, I’ve already drunk half the damn thing! I have to admit though, it seems like…cheap stuff, you know? It's almost what I'd imagine drinking dog piss would be like. Like this ain’t a $500 bottle of bubbly, you know what I mean? But hey... better than nothing I guess! Eli's feeling good tonight!!”
Immediately, CHRIS JERICHO comes out from behind the curtain and begins assaulting Eli Drake, yelling that he stole the bubbly. Security is quick to come pull Jericho off of Drake, as champagne is spilled all over the floor of GPB Studios. The scene eventually calms down, and a champagne-doused David Marquez sends us to a video package while he tries to wipe off a little bit of the bubbly from his suit jacket.
“Apollo Crews, you’re nothing more than a paper champion. What have you really accomplished here in the National Wrestling Alliance other than being a poser? Sure, you’ve successfully warped the minds of the NWA fans into thinking that you’re some kind of paragon of athleticism and determination. But I know the truth, Apollo Crews.
The day is coming that I will challenge you for that National Championship. And when I do, maybe then these fans will understand that you’re nothing more than a counterfeit champion who possesses a million dollar smile, and a three dollar set of wrestling skills.”
Match 3
Samoa Joe v. Rusev
In this match, Rusev made it his mission to start gaining momentum in the NWA against the #1 Contender for Apollo Crews’ National Championship. This was an incredibly hard-hitting contest that actually saw Rusev hit a big Machka Kick on Joe, busting Joe’s nose open. As blood was dripping down the mouth of Joe, it only seemed to piss him off more as he was able to hit various moves such as an STO, enziguri and power slam before catching Rusev in the Coquina Clutch, rendering him incapacitated.
Winner: Samoa Joe at 8:09
“I am not a man to be taken lightly. My name is Jax Dane, and I am a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. I was champion for 419 days - over ONE YEAR. I am a bringer of destruction who will wage war to retain the legacy of the National Wrestling Alliance. I’m putting my foot down when everyone else is scared to say anything. But me?….Jax Dane isn’t scared of shit. I’m taking a stand against these wrestlers coming into the NWA with their ‘star power’ and stealing opportunities from people like myself. All these WWE rejects don’t deserve to have a spot in MY National Wrestling Alliance. Make no mistake about it - Jax Dane is the only man in the NWA capable of being a REAL Worlds Champion. The rest can kiss my ass.”
Match 4
Beer Money v. Lucha Bros
In a big-time match up, Beer Money was finally reunited and the fans were thrilled! Storm and Roode looked great in this match and seemingly hadn’t lost a step until the very end of the match. After taking a large amount of aerial offense from the Lucha Bros, Storm was able to catch Fenix and attempted to hit the Last Call Superkick, but Fenix ducked and the ref caught the worst of it. This prompted Pentagon to enter the match, followed by Roode, as four-man warfare broke out. As the referee collected himself, he forced Roode and Pentagon back out of the ring. Storm tagged Roode into the match, but Roode wasn’t holding the tag rope, forcing the ref to rule the tag invalid. This led to Fenix hitting a big dropkick to the back of Storm, knocking Roode off the apron. As Fenix tried closing in on Storm, Storm was able to regroup, hit the Last Call out of nowhere, and pin Fenix! Off to a good start for Beer Money. Let’s see if they can keep their winning streak alive for a month, per the North’s stipulation, for a shot at the tag team championships.
Winners: Beer Money at 13:02

Match 5
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship Tournament
Jeff Jarrett v. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair
At the start of Power, nobody expected that Jeff Jarrett and Ric Flair would be main eventing. Sure enough, due to the perseverance of Billy Corgan to restore the NWA to its former glory, here we are with two NWA legends.
The match itself had a slow, methodical pace. Jeff Jarrett was able to keep Flair grounded for a majority of the match, but the chops of Ric Flair were able to bring him back some momentum. After Flair worked Jarrett in the corner for over a minute, the referee forced both men to return to the center of the ring. This led Jarrett to attempting dirty tactics for the advantage, but turnabout is “flair” play as Flair poked the eyes of Jarrett, hit yet another chop block after working the legs, locked him in the Figure Four and successfully completed the match!
Winner and advancing in the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship tournament: Ric Flair at 12:21
After the match, Flair celebrated as the NWA faithfuls were in awe that Flair could still compete at such a level. Jarrett rolled out of the ring and started pounding on the floor, in shock that he just lost to The Dirtiest Player in the Game!
David Marquez:
"Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Ric Flair! Thank you all for tuning in to this edition of NWA Power. Next week, the tournament continues when Christian Cage makes his NWA debut and takes on “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner! Also, Rey Mysterio will seek revenge on Jax Dane in yet ANOTHER tournament match that is sure to blow the roof off of GPB Studios! Until next week, goodnight!"
